Warmest Congratulations to Kathleen and Seán Dennehy

Winners of the All Ireland Ballroom Dancing held in Carlow

     27th June 2010

Kathleen and Seán  Dennehy commenced their Dancing Career in 1974 and since then have never looked back (except when dancing!)  They began taking lessons in Ballyglass House Hotel, Tipperary from tutors Ger and Ann Tuohig.   Since then they have taken part in competitions all around Europe, and have been finalists in the United Kingdom, Finland, Italy, Spain, Holland, Denmark and Finland.   As well as becoming All Ireland Champions this year, they also are Middlesex Senior Champions 2010. We wish them every success as they continue to whirl around the dance floor.

Kathleen and Seán express their sincere thanks to Kilbehenny Community Centre, where they practice every Tuesday night.

Social Dancing

Whether it's the quick step, waltz, tango, foxtrot, the slosh, or 'shoe the donkey' Mary and Mattie will take you through your paces.  The help and support you receive will remove all fears of the dance floor.   Their immense experience gives everyone an opportunity to learn and enjoy social dancing, irrespective of ability.

Come along on Monday nights where you will be welcomed with open arms, and even enjoy a cup of tea with a slice of Mary Barrett's famous current cake - now, that's a treat you cannot afford to miss!!

Foróige

Foróige Kilbehenny was re-established on 6th September 2006 under the guidance of eight leaders. Twenty-five members joined on that night, and our organisation has been very successful since then. We meet in Kilbehenny Community Centre each Friday night during the school year from 8pm to 10pm.We are a very active group, organising discos, taking trips to the cinema, and meeting up with other Foróige groups. We regularly take part in Tidy Towns clean up  and this is much appreciated. Many of us, both leaders and members, completed ECDL during the past twelve months. This was a great achievement and it is our intention to do further education courses in the coming year.

New members always welcome

Kilbehenny ICA

On 6th October 1977 the Kilbehenny guild of the I.C.A. was formed under the leadership of the following officers: President: Mary O’Brien, Secretary: Mary Casey, Treasurer: Mary Kelly. Kilbehenny Branch was affiliated to the Limerick Federation. Since its inception, Kilbehenny I.C.A. has entered lots of competitions, had numerous demonstrations, ran every class possible, and won quite a few competitions at federation level.   I.C.A. has given the women of Ireland a voice and they are a fighting force when it comes to decision making.    I.C.A. nationally was instrumental in having Breast Check rolled out around the country, thus helping women protect themselves against breast cancer.  Each year we organize trips to many parts of Ireland.  We meet regularly on 2nd Tuesday of every month in Kilbehenny Community Centre.

New members are always welcome.

Kilbehenny Brownies

Brownie meetings are held from September to June on Friday evenings between 7 and 8pm at Kilbehenny Community Centre.   Girls aged between six and eleven years take part in activities and games aimed at developing their ability to become responsible citizens.

Through team participation they learn how to grow in confidence, achieve goals and respect others and the environment.

Annual outings are a favourite with the children, the programme of events include crafts, games and music. The Brownies also fundraise for charities and take part in the annual St Patrick’s Day parade. The biggest event of this year was the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the founding of Brownies in Kilbehenny. Following a ceremony at the hall, presentations were made to past and present leaders. Specially commissioned badges to mark the occasion were presented to each child.

Kilbehenny Brownies and Ladybirds and their leaders, all set to plant a Christmas Tree in Kilbehenny Community Centre on 30th April 2010.   The tree was generously sponsored by Kay and Anthony Caplice of Skeheenarinky.   We hope both the tree and the children will grow healthy and strong and enjoy living in our beautiful countryside.

This photo was taken to celebrate the Tri-Centenary of Guiding which commenced in England in 2010.

Next year it will be Ireland's turn to celebrate its Tri-Centenary and many projects will take place to mark this occasion.

Kilbehenny Little Tots

Little Tots was founded in September 2006.   Each Tuesday morning between 10.30am and 12.30pm parents and carers of young children meet in Kilbehenny Community Centre, which incidentally has wheelchair access.

This is a wonderful opportunity to meet up with other adults and engage in chat whether it's about the latest tooth, sleepless nights, tantrums - or whatever!!  It's amazing how problems get solved by just sharing them, and all the while, the little ones enjoy the freedom of running around, playing with toys and with other children, and of course there's always a cup of tea on offer for the grown-ups.

We have every available facility here, and all the toys meet the required safety standards.   Babies are especially well catered for with changing facilities etc provided.  We organise outings to places like Monkey Maze and Fota Island which are most enjoyable.  We facilitate courses in Pediatric First Aid, giving us the confidence we need to deal with accidents or emergencies which may occur at any time.

Come along and enjoy a chat and a cup of tea, new members always welcome.
