In Kilbehenny, we are very fortunate to have a group of volunteers who work tirelessly to keep

our Community Centre maintained and busy all year round.   There is never a quiet moment in

our centre, with all sorts of activities ongoing right throughout the year: Dances, Festivals,

Bingo, Little Tots, 45 Drive, ICA, Ladybirds, Brownies, Foróige, Meetings, Computer Classes,

Safe Pass, Defibrillator Training, Fund-raising etc.     Only for the voluntary efforts of those

people, such events could not continue.

We express our sincere gratitude to all who volunteer their time and energy in keeping

Kilbehenny Community Centre a hive of activity.

           COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT SCHEME  (FÁS)

Carmel English   Supervisor   Kilbehenny Community Employment Scheme

Our Community Employment Scheme is vital to the survival of our community.   Never more so

than in the present economic climate. Participants spend their days keeping the villages of

Kilbehenny and Anglesboro clean, tidy, and litter free.   Flowerbeds are maintained,

landscaping, hedge trimming, and grass cutting are all part of the daily outdoor activities of our

participants.

The improved Tidy Towns results are due in no small measure to the ongoing efforts of the Fás

participants.  We are fortunate to have people who have a great appreciation of nature, who

plant, sow and prune as the seasons dictate.  Others have made and erected flower boxes

which now adorn the bridge from both sides of the village of Kilbehenny.   Dry stone beds have

been built and are looking absolutely beautiful.  We are continuously being complemented on

the general appearance of Kilbehenny and its surrounds.

The office is run by Carmel English, Supervisor, and here a team of dedicated ladies ensure that

everyone who seeks advice or help with organising activities, receive all the support they

need.

Training

The major role of Fás is to train participants in order to enable them to re-enter the work

force.  All participants are encouraged to re-educate and gain work experience.
