Kilbehenny is one of a group of eight chosen villages throughout the Ballyhoura Region which has been awarded the title 'Village of Tradition'.

Many events take place in our community to preserve our heritage and cultures such as card games; old time dancing, Irish dancing, sewing, knitting, bastable baking, crafts etc. Kilbehenny offers fantastic facilities where one can enjoy the great outdoors - mountain climbing, walking, cycling, nature trails, bird watching, fishing and wonderful species of wildlife.   Nesting boxes have been placed at strategic locations, and we are delighted to see these being used by our native birds.

Take a break from the busy pace of life and put Kilbehenny on your list of places to visit.

A warm welcome awaits you

Carmel English, Supervisor Fás Community Employment Scheme

The Community Employment Scheme continues to be the backbone of our community both in Kilbehenny and in Anglesboro.  The objective of the C.E. Scheme is to provide opportunities for individual training and personal development.

There are eleven participants on our scheme who are busy catering for the needs of our communities, being involved in the ongoing activities which take place during the year at the Community Centre.

The participants play a major role in the upkeep of Kilbehenny village and its surrounds, ensuring it is looking it's best in preparation for the Tidy Towns Competition which takes place annually.

Tidy Towns

Our Tidy Towns Committee was set up in 2008, and in that year, we secured a National Special Endeavour Award for the project carried out at Condon's Corner.

In 2009 our marks improved by 34, the highest increase nationally for any village, and for this we again received a National Special Endeavour Award.

We are delighted to say that Kilbehenny's results  improved by a further 12 points in 2010, proving that hard work and cooperation bring well-deserved rewards.

During 2011, Fás workers and locals are working together to build stone beds, erect hanging baskets, maintain flower beds and grass areas.   Bird boxes have been placed in strategic points and it's lovely to see the birds nesting there.   The Mill River is a beautiful area of tranquility, where many visitors now rest their weary bones, lapping up the peace and quiet.  The old Creamery has been painted and appropriate signage erected.  The church grounds and graveyards, both old and new, are beautifully kept and once again our efforts paid off.   A further 12 points was awarded in the Tidy Towns Competition bringing our marks for Category A to 244.

Kilbehenny is a village to be proud of and we are grateful to all who help in any way to keep it looking its best
